Theme 2: The Turbine

This theme will build on the work in Supergen Wind 1 to improve the reliability and performance of individual wind turbines. Supergen partner involvement in ETI and other projects have highlighted further research required in the areas of:

Improved controllers;
Application of models developed in Phase 1 for control load prediction;
Application of models developed in Phase 1 for material design;
The refinement and expansion of wind turbine monitoring to detect a wider range of faults for a greater range of future wind turbine drive train configurations;
Better and lower cost wind turbine foundations.
