Chi ZhangLei

Academic background
Chi graduated in Materials Science with his MEng from Queen Mary, University in 2006. Afterwards, he started his PhD studies on composite materials under the supervision of Prof. Paul Hogg. During his doctorate he developed expertises in the crashworthiness of structural composites. He also acquired knowledge in the area of numerical modelling of composites materials. From 2008 to 2009, Chi was employed as a Research Assistant at QMUL on a project organised by the Ministry of Defence. During this project, he was involved the design and investigation of an intelligent armour system subjected to high speed impact by using nano-particles and state-of-the-art 3D textile manufacturing technologies. In 2009, he moved to Northwest Composites Centre, University of Manchester, and started his postdoctoral research on wind turbine materials.

Research topic
Development of novel composite materials on wind turbine blade

Research background and objectives
His research interests cover from the processing design and structural analysis, to the characterisation and performance evaluation of composite materials.
